Thank you for choosing to be part of our community at NewHope Church (“NewHope,” “we”, “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Notice (this “Notice”) describes the type of information we may collect from you or that you may provide to us when you:
- Visit, register with, use, or otherwise engage with (including passively browsing) the website newhopechurch.org, including mobile versions and any subdomains (collectively, our “Website”).
- Inquire about or participate in an event or program we conduct, whether online or offline, including classes, groups, seminars, services, counseling programs, community volunteer opportunities and other missions work, luncheons, and other programs (collectively, our “Events and Programs”).
- Interact with our pages or accounts on social media platforms (our “Social Media”) or interact with our Church Online Platform.
- Become a volunteer at NewHope (“Volunteers”).
- Make a donation or tithe to NewHope (“Donations”).
- Make a purchase with us, including for merchandise (if this option is available to you) and registration fees for Events and Programs.
- Submit a prayer request or provide us with information about your spiritual walk.
- Email, text, call, fill out an offline form or survey, or otherwise communicate with us (your “Communications”).
This Notice describes our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing your information. Please take some time to read this Notice carefully to understand how we will treat your information. We take your privacy very seriously and seek to explain to you in the most straightforward way possible what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have in it. If you disagree with our policies and practices as described in this Notice, please discontinue use of this Website and do not engage with us on Social Media, through Communications, or otherwise. By continuing to use our Website or otherwise engaging with us, you accept and consent to our use of your information as described in this Notice.
This Notice may change from time to time. Your continued interaction with us after we make changes is deemed to be acceptance of those changes, so please check this page periodically for updates. The date this Notice was last revised is identified at the top of this page.
1. PROTECTING CHILDREN’S INFORMATION
Our Website is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”). In accordance with our Terms of Use, any section of our Website regarding children's Events and Programs, including camp registration and baptism sign-ups, should be accessed only with a parent or guardian present; a parent or guardian must complete all sign-ups and submissions. In accordance with our Social Media’s terms and conditions of use (including Meta’s Facebook Terms of Service, Instagram’s Terms of Use, and YouTube’s Terms of Service, engagement with us on our Social Media is limited to children aged 13 and up. If we discover that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete such information. If you believe a child under 13 may have provided us with their information, please immediately contact us at office@newhopechurch.org. Of course, parents or guardians of children of any age may request the deletion of their child's information by contacting us at office@newhopechurch.org.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We collect two basic types of information:
- Information that identifies (whether directly or indirectly) a particular individual, such as your name, postal address, email address, and telephone number (“Personal Information”); and
- Information that does not directly or indirectly identify, and cannot reasonably be used to identify, an individual (“Anonymous Information”). When Anonymous Information is directly or indirectly associated with Personal Information, the resulting information is also treated as Personal Information.
We may use Personal Information and Anonymous Information to create a third type of information: information about groups or categories of individuals, which does not identify and cannot reasonably be used to identify an individual (“Aggregate Information”).
In particular, we collect the following categories of Personal Information:
- Contact information you provide when you request information, sign-up for our newsletter, submit a prayer request, create an account on our Website (if this functionality is available to you), sign-up or register for our Events and Programs, seek to become a Volunteer, submit a Donation, or otherwise Communicate with us, such as your name, email address, telephone number, social media account handles, and address of residency.
- Information about the transactions you carry out through our Website (“Transaction Information”) when you donate to NewHope, register for our Programs and Events, or purchase a product from us, such as your postal address, email address, telephone number, and payment information. We use third-party service providers to collect data necessary to process your payment if you make purchases, such as your payment instrument number (such as a credit card number), and the security code associated with your payment instrument (your “Payment Data”). Your Payment Data is stored by our payment processor(s), and you should review their privacy policies before making a payment. Please contact the payment processor directly to respond to your questions.
- Website account credentials you provide when you create an account on our Website (if this functionality is available to you), such as passwords, password hints, and similar security information used for authentication and account access.
- Information you voluntarily and privately provide to us on our Website, including sensitive personal information, photos, and any other information you provide to us when you submit a prayer request, register for our Events and Programs, apply to become a Volunteer, or otherwise Communicate with us privately (your “Private User Uploads”).
- Information you voluntarily and publicly upload on our Website or Social Media, including photos (your “Public User Uploads”). If you provide Personal Information in your User Uploads, that Personal Information may be publicly posted and otherwise disclosed without limitation as to its use by us or by a third party. Your Public User Uploads are posted and transmitted to others at your own risk. We cannot control the actions of other users of our Website or Social Media and cannot and do not guarantee that unauthorized persons will not view your Public User Uploads.
- Still or video images captured by cameras or readers on or around our physical properties or uploaded in your Private User Uploads or Public User Uploads.
- Approximate location information, provided by your device when accessing our Website or our Social Media, or associated with your IP address or other online or device identifier.
- Activity, usage, viewing, technical, and device data (“Usage Data”) when you visit our Website or open emails we send. This includes the content you view, how often you use our Website, including the date(s) and time(s) you access our Website, your browser, device type, and operating system, your unique device identifier, IP address, and, if you linked to our Website from another website, the address of such website. We may obtain this information through Automatic Technologies, including from third-party service providers, as described in more detail in Section 3 – How We Collect Your Information.
- Copies of your Communications, including, in some cases, call recordings.
- Information from your social media accounts when you choose to register or log in to our Website using your social media account. Depending on your social media account privacy settings, this may include your name, email address, friends list, profile picture, and other profile information.
3. HOW WE COLLECT YOUR INFORMATION
As described throughout this Notice, we may collect information about you directly from you, through your parent or guardian, through Automatic Technologies (defined below), from Third-Party Service Providers (defined below), or through social media.
A. Information We Collect Through Automatic Technologies
As you navigate through and interact with our Website, we may use automatic data collection technologies (“Automatic Technologies”) to collect certain information about your equipment, browsing actions, and patterns, including:
- Cookies (or browser cookies). Cookies are pieces of information that a website places on your computer's hard drive when you visit the website. Cookies may involve the transmission of information from us to you and from you directly to us, to another party on our behalf, or to another party in accordance with its privacy policies and notices. We may use cookies to bring together information we collect about you. You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being placed on your device, or you can choose to block all cookies. You do this through your browser settings. Each browser is a little different, so look at your browser Help menu to learn the correct way to modify your cookies. If you turn cookies off, you may be unable to access certain parts of our Website.
- Web Beacons and marketing pixels. Web beacons and marketing pixels are small pieces of data that are embedded in images on webpages. They may involve the transmission of information directly to us, to another party on our behalf, or to another party in accordance with its privacy policies and notices. We may use web beacons or marketing pixels to bring together information we collect about you.
B. Information We Collect Through Third-Party Service Providers
We use the following third-party tools, which may deploy Automatic Technologies, in connection with our Website or email communications to you:
- Checkr. We use Checkr, a cloud-based background screening platform, exclusively for conducting background checks on Volunteers. When performing a background check authorized by a Volunteer, Checkr collects and processes sensitive personal information, such as government-issued and sensitive IDs. We do not receive or store any sensitive personal information from Checkr. For more information on how Checkr handles your information, please refer to their Privacy Policy.
- Church Online Platform. We use Church Online Platform, a church-management and online ministry software-as-a-service tool created by Life Covenant Church, Inc., to host live-stream or simulcast worship services (it plugs into our Social Media for the video feed), display clickable “next-step” slides (e.g., giving, small-group sign-ups), collect Events and Programs registrations, and track attendance and basic engagement metrics. Our integration of the Church Online Platform with our Website may involve collecting your contact information, account credentials, Private and/or Public User Uploads, and Usage Data. - Church Fuel. We use Church Fuel, a church leadership and management platform, to support our Communications, training, and ministry engagement efforts. Church Fuel may collect and process Personal Information such as your contact information, Website account credentials, and Usage Data (for example, when you register for Events and Programs, participate in training modules, or interact with resources we share through the platform). This information helps us provide resources, track participation, and better understand how our community engages with available tools. - Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, to analyze how you use our Website. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information about your use of the Website, including your IP address, and generates reports on our Website’s activity. Google’s ability to use information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to our Website is restricted by Google’s Privacy Policy. - Google Forms. We use Google Forms, a web-based form and survey building to create surveys, distribute them via public links, emails, or iFrame embeds, collect responses, and analyze collected data. We collect any Personal Information you may provide when completing our surveys. Google’s ability to use information collected by Google Forms is restricted by Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Google Maps API. Our Website and Social Media may integrate the Google Maps API to allow us to display interactive maps and provide directions to our users. In the course of using Google Maps API, certain data may be collected by Google, including but not limited to IP addresses, location data, and search queries. Google’s ability to use information collected by our use of the Google Maps API is restricted by Google’s Privacy Policy. By using our Google Maps API on our Website or Social Media, you agree to be bound by Google’s Terms of Service and Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service.
- Mailchimp. We use Mailchimp, an email marketing and automation software-as-a-service provider, to send email communications, such as newsletters and updates, to our subscribers. Mailchimp collects your contact information and subscription preferences to manage and send emails on our behalf. Mailchimp may also use cookies and similar technologies to collect Usage Data, which is used to improve our email delivery. You can opt out of receiving marketing emails at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in any email sent to you. - Managed Missions. We use Managed Missions, a mission trip management platform, to coordinate mission trips and related activities. Managed Missions collects and processes information that you provide in connection with your participation, such as your contact information, Private and/or Public User Uploads, Personal Information (including any sensitive information) you provide in your application information, and fundraising activity. - Pushpay. We use Pushpay, a giving, payment-processing, and church-management software-as-a-service provider, to accept one-time and recurring Donations, collect Events and Programs’ fees, run credit-card, debit-card, and ACH payment processing, manage donor records, and perform other back-office tasks. Pushpay integrates with our Website to facilitate secure payment transactions. In the course of processing payments you authorize, Pushpay may collect your contact information, Transaction Information, and Payment Data. We do not receive or store your Payment Data from Pushpay. - SendGrid. We use SendGrid, an email infrastructure service provided by Twilio, to send you email reminders (such as for Events and Programs you register to attend). SendGrid collects your contact information to enable the delivery of these messages on our behalf. SendGrid may also use cookies and similar technologies to collect Usage Data, which is used to improve our email delivery. You can opt out of receiving future emails at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in any email sent to you. - Telzio. We use Telzio, a text messaging service provider, to facilitate communications with you when you explicitly opt in to receiving such communications. By consenting to receive communications when asked, you agree to receive automated and/or manual notifications, updates, reminders, and other relevant messages from Telzio related to NewHope. These messages may include Events and Programs’ updates, important announcements, and registration confirmations. Message and data rates may apply depending on your carrier. You can opt out of receiving text messages at any time by replying with “STOP” or contacting us directly. Upon opting out, you will no longer receive messages except where required by law. The frequency of messages may vary depending on your engagement with us. Your mobile information and text message originator opt-in data and consent will never be shared with third parties/affiliates in accordance with Section 5 – How We Share Your Information of this Notice. 4. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
Consistent with applicable law and choices and controls that may be available to you, we may use information collected from you, or from devices associated with you, to:
- Present our Website to you.
- Improve our Website, Social Media presence, and Events and Programs, including by understanding your preferences and delivering a more personalized experience to you.
- To monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities in connection with our Website, Social Media, and Events and Programs.
- To process and fulfill transactions, including managing payments, fees, and donations.
- To communicate with you, including responding to your inquiries, comments, concerns, and requests.
- To allow you to participate in interactive features on our Website.
- To send you information, including through text messages (if you opt in), emails, or other communications tailored to your interests and/or location, subject to your right to opt out of such communications.
- To display advertisements about us and our Events and Programs to you.
- To keep our Website and Events and Programs secure and safe.
- To detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent transactions and other illegal activities and protect the rights of NewHope and its members, guests, employees, and Volunteers.
- To carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts between you and us, including for billing and collection.
- To carry out any other purpose described to you at the time the information was collected or as otherwise set forth in this Notice.
5. HOW WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION
We never sell Personal Information, and we will never share your Personal Information with third parties except:
- To contractors, service providers, and other third parties, we use to support our business as described in this Notice.
- To a buyer or other successor in the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of NewHope Church, Inc.’s assets, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding.
- To comply with any court order, law, or legal process, including responding to any government or regulatory request.
- To enforce or apply our Terms of Use or other agreements, including for billing and collection purposes.
- If we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of NewHope and its members, guests, employees, and Volunteers
- To fulfill the purpose for which you provide it.
- With your consent.
6. YOUR CONTROLS AND CHOICES
If you would at any time like to review or change the Personal Information you have provided us, or otherwise would like us to delete your Personal Information, including the termination of your account on our Website, please contact us using the contact information provided below. Upon your request to terminate your Website account, we will deactivate or delete your account and information from our active databases. Please note, however, that some information may be retained in our files to prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems, assist with any investigations, enforce our Terms of Use, and/or comply with legal requirements.
While we are a North Carolina-based church primarily collecting data from North Carolina residents and likely do not trigger state threshold requirements for comprehensive consumer privacy laws, we acknowledge that some residents may have concerns or rights requests they believe apply to them. If you have such a concern or request, please contact us.
7. DATA SECURITY, INTEGRITY, AND RETENTION
We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of your Personal Information. However, please also remember that we cannot guarantee that the internet itself is 100% secure. Although we will do our best to protect your Personal Information, transmission of Personal Information on the internet, including our Website and Social Media, is at your own risk. You should only access our Website within a secure environment.
